Cafe LaChance is a busy, friendly local eatery, serving soul food as well as Italian and Cajun fare (sometimes in fusion); jambalaya, gumbo, lasagna, collard greens, and pizza are staples. The owners are a boisterous and emotional (but very warm and friendly) couple: Pierre and Carlita LaChance. Pierre sounds like he's fresh off the boat from a French culinary school and Carlita talks like she's still running a pizza parlor in the Bronx. Although they aren't supernaturally inclined, their clientele often is – the place is seen as common ground for Changelings and Werewolves, primarily.
Pierre LaChance is a second-generation Cajun, Caucasian, tall and stick-like with a mop of graying brown hair and thin beard. He attended culinary school in Paris before moving to New York City to try his luck. He opened a French pop bistro across the street from Carlita's chic Italian/pizza joint. Carlita Freeman is the only daughter of an Italian father and African American mother, stout and heavy-set. She followed in her father's footsteps as a chef. When Pierre set up shop across from her, she took it as a challenge and for two years they fought over clients viciously until they finally caved in and got hitched. They shut down both shops and moved to the South, a place familiar to both of them; Pierre was from Louisiana and Carlita spent many years with her mother's family in Georgia. Together, they combined their culinary passions and opened one of the most popular restaurants in the area.
Secrets: The reason Cafe LaChance is seen as a nice, community restaurant for everyone to meet up at is because it has some sort of aura wrapped around it. It is not caused by Carlita or Pierre; neither of them are supernatural. Something about the restaurant or its location has made it a place of peace. It's not clear if it's a locus, Wyrm's Nest, or something similar. Changelings meet here as a sort of Elysium; Werewolves meet to talk pack politics as well, and to study the area. Anyone trying to commit a hostile action towards anyone in the restaurant or against the Cafe itself must spend a Willpower point and then roll Resolve + Composure at a -3 penalty. Success allows a single action before another Willpower must be spent, and the person committing the act immediately becomes consumed with guilt and suffers a -1 penalty to all subsequent actions for the duration of the scene; this is cumulative with every following hostile action.
