Since late September of last year, just before Vargas came to town, the ritual murder rates in Biloxi have nearly doubled. Before, about half of the solved cases turned out to be someone trying to cover up the murder by making it look like it was done by voodoo practitioners or cultists. But lately many of the murders that account for the sharp rise have been committed by "true believers." These people actually think that there rituals will bring back their dead wives, make them younger, or grant them their hearts darkest desires. The brass has taken notice, as has the press. There is starting to be pressure from the top to figure out why this is happening and how to put an end to it.
